narrow surgery

this is totally unrelated to anything, but a classmate of mine works for surgeon billy - she mentioned to him that i'd won my council race and he told her that our whole family is really, really smart and he gushed on about how hard working and brilliant our parents are. which i thought was all very kind since most of my communications with him have only been asking for money for various school fundraisers and he didn't mention that at all. so, here's thanks to everyone who has kept in touch with him and jim and glady. the title for this post comes from a time in 7th grade when we were asked to write an in-class essay about a relative we are proud of - i'd never really given a thought to his occupation until i had to spell it and then i wondered why he's called a "narrow surgeon" and figured it must be due to the tight spaces in the brain - and that's what my essay was about. good thing mr haapala had never heard of neurosurgery or i might not have gotten the A on my paper and our cousin might not think we're all so brilliant.

thinking of jenny and hoping things are going well in phoenix. -liz

Are you really serious??? That is too funny. There were no little red pen marks about "narrow" on your paper? Does that paper still exist? You ought to copy it and send it to Billy. Would probably make his day.

I'd love to see it myself.

That is hilarious! My last contact
with him was to say we had been to
see his mom and that we are taking
barn pictures. He replied that it
must be a genetic thing as he used
to love barn pictures.

Was sharing your paper story with the "Narrow Surgery" Nurse Practitioner at work yesterday. She got a good chuckle and would enjoy seeing it. (smiles)

i don't believe i've got that paper anywhere - i'll dig around tho and see if i come up with anything. problem is there's a certain age where that stuff seems too embarrassing to hold on to.

Hope you don't mind but I e-mailed
that story to him to give him a
chuckle to begin the week! Not
all of it, just the "narrow surgeon" part. dk

There goes the theory of us all being really smart =).

You know what is interesting is the comments that our family gets on how we all have common sense and so many other people don't.

Thanks to our parents who taught us common sense at a young age, because I find it really difficult to teach it to adults. Also thanks to our parents for being so supportive of education and learning. I don't even mean just the school part, but learning as a whole.

you could always create one again ... just pretend you're that age. this could be really good. so when you are really bored and haven't had enough of writing papers in school ... give this one a whirl. we'll submit it to some award winning something or other for you anonymously.
