Construction

Our house remains under construction. Here's the update: the kitchen has been mudded, taped, primed, and painted the walls a dark green and a white ceiling. The tan colored ceramic tile is in, with a darker grout (Thanks Anita and Becky). We put the old cabinets back in, but one of these days, Shawn is going to make new ones. He wants them out of ash and is going to try that. When we were in St. Paul, he went browsing and found the "perfect" countertop. I guess it is a mountain green granite tile with tan flecks. He hopes they still have it when it comes to that time to do the countertops. The living room is a darker tan and other than one spot, it is done being painted. Around the bay window isn't done as that will be wood. The plywood was put down on the living room floor yesterday, the birch hardwood is piled in the living room and the project of putting that in, starts today. He has to get some saw blades, etc. this morning and then starts with the wood. After it is in, we have to sand our wood ceiling, varnish it, then sand and varnish the floor. Hopefully all this will be done by the middle of next week. The bathroom is near to being done with the mudding. That will be the next project. The hallway is painted and the tile will be put in after the living room. So, the work continues and there is new stuff done every day. Shawn initially insisted on white walls, but now it appears that the only white walls we will have will be in the bedrooms. To go from the thought of white to the reality of a dark green, has been an adjustment, but it looks really nice and both of us just love it. Others have not been so impressed. I think they just act like that and I tell them that before I know it, they are going to have dark green walls themselves.

I'm enjoying the progress of the house immensely. Shawn has been going overboard with ideas and really all I ever wanted was to just get mud, tape, and at least primer on the walls. I told him that last night and he wished I would have pointed that out earlier as it would have saved him a lot of work. I'm getting excited about having a little house warming party when the house is near done. I will be able to take pictures and not just see the mudded sheetrock in the background. That has bothered me for quite some time. When all this work is done, it will be time to add an addition. However, I'm not moving anything in to the addition until it is completed. We hope to build on an addition in the future so my living room can be a dining room then have a larger living room and add another bedroom for when we have people over. I'm trying to get 2 bedrooms so I can have a craft room, but we'll see. One thing at a time.

To those that are cotinuing with their home projects, enjoy!!

Isn't it just so much fun???? And, I love living with bedrooms in the living room ... just adds some extra spice to life. Bedroom #2 got texture on Wed; paint, ceiling fan & flooring yesterday. All that remains in that room is trim & closet door! 2 more to go. Will this house ever be finished?? Just not enough hours in a day anymore. Gives me a few more days to shred a few more piles in my room. That room has no choice but to be last on the list.
I can't wait to see the green. Wait until you see folks' reactions once the cabinets are in. They'll be running for the paint store!

My kitchen was in the living room and now my living room has moved into the kitchen. The nice part is that I'm cooking again =(
I think some of them have already bought the green paint. What's funny is that so many people see projects for what they are and don't see what I see. I see a beautiful kitchen with new cabinets, etc. I don't know that I would have a gree kitchen if I didn't see that. I also got a sign that I hung up in the kitchen: "Early to bed, early to rise, fish all day, make up lies". Shawn doesn't want me getting any more knick knacks until the new cabinets, etc. are in. However, I did convince him to let us stop at the outlet mall, but my favorite store (full of knick knacks) is no longer. I will have to find another store.

We saw the Lindula construction
yesterday. I liked the kitchen wall color and can picture it with
new light wood cabinets and the
dark green showing here and there.
Saw the kitchen tile, a little bit of it, 'cuz at that point their
living room was in the kitchen. dk

My intention was not to send it
twice but it kept saying I had an
incorrect password! Then it
said it was sorry by sending it
twice. Will see what happens now! dk

The construction continues, but here is an update: the living room hardwood flooring is almost all in. There is a little piece needed by the sliding door. Shawn is renting a sander today and will be sanding the floor. Then to seal it. Hope to have it all done by the weekend at the latest. The living room will then be back in the living room. It is somewhat already, but will have to be moved out again when the sanding and sealing take place. Our house is really beginning to look nice. I'm obsessed with sweeping/vacuuming the floor, because it is so nice to sweep. It is so hard to sweep plywood, but hardwood flooring and tile sweep so easy.
How is the project coming along in AZ? Are you putting in finished hardwood or are you sanding it, sealing it, etc?

I am putting in fake hardwood. Mine is vinyl. No work needed, other than the broom and mop! Bedroom 3 gets it today. The last 2 rooms we are not replacing closet doors. Will take them off and hit them with the paint sprayer. That saves a bit of time & ever precious $$$. Maybe, maybe, maybe ... we can get that room mudded where need be and texture sprayed tonight. Then new ceiling fan, paint, floor & trim. Am running out of time to get my own room cleaned out! Helppppppp! I filled another 4 boxes in the past 24 hours. Now I need to start labeling, packing taping & moving them out of here. I am going out for the best tasting Chineese lunch when this is done. (smiles)

I can't wait to see both projects! It seems a bit funny to think I might get to see the AZ one before the Iron Range one, but that is what it is looking like. Wayne surprised me and arranged more than just a day off. He arranged for me to go to AZ for 4 days! Heather, we will come that direction before long. Keep us updated on construction progress.

Becky,
We would love to have you come visit. Take your time though as more gets done everyday.

The wood flooring in the living room was finished being put in, sanded, and is now ready to be sealed. It has to be done this weeek. My poor vacuum cleaner is probably going to die by the time this construction is over. The last one, I got for a shower gift and I think the sheetrock dust killed it, so got a new one, we'll see if if can survive. It is doing me proud at the moment and it is used constantly.
