Have an interview today. After 10 years and about 20 applications later, I have an interview with the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) panel today at 11. It is the air traffic control building one block from our house. It is down to me and 2 others. Now I normally do not get nervous for interviews but I am a bit anxious and nervous for this one....I hear the interview process with the panel is "intense"!! Wish me luck!

Glad that is over! What a grueling experience but I think I did well. Sat before a panel of 6 who each asked me 2 questions. Of course now the "sit and wait" game starts. I asked them how soon they would be making a decision and they laughed and said "this is the federal government, maybe within 3 weeks or so".....keep in mind I applied for this job 6 months ago....enough said (haha)
So I will wait patiently and see what happens and if nothing comes from this at least I am working!
I have worked for the private sector my entire life and I know working for the government is a whole new world. Would be so exciting working for the Air Traffic Control Center, not to mention the benefits!

No I will not get flying benefits but every other benefit in the world. They offer family health insurance at rates that are unheard of as well as free life insurance, dental options, pension, 401K, vision coverage and the vacation and sick days are very generous. I would get 13 days of vacation my first year AND 13 days of sick time plus 10 paid holidays. That's 36 days! The second year I would get 19 days of vacation and 13 days of sick time plus 10 paid holidays. No wonder everyone loves working for the governement. The problem is no one leaves so that is why it is so hard to get in this place.
One of the guys on the interview panel was my neighbor and he emailed me lastnight and said I did a wonderful job with the interview and that I should be proud. He said some of my answers blew him away ecspecially my closing statement. So I am still hopeful! Will let you all know when I hear something! ? This job would mean a great deal to our family...security, longevity, benefits. It would be wonderful to not have to pay darn near a house payments worth of health insurance premiums each month and that is for very poor coverage. (frown).
