FARMINGTON JO UPDATE

Turning 50 has not slowed me down....only when it comes to this blogging thing, I know I am a slow poke!!!

Kids have been back in school since August 25 so we are getting back to a normal routine (whatever normal is these days). Tanner is going to Dakota County Vo Tech this year for his senior year-taking Graphic Arts. He only goes to the Farmington school till 11:30 then he spends the rest of the day at Vo Tech then goes directly to work after that (still doing the landscape thing until the snow flies). Mitchell is loving 4th grade however he is not so sure about his homework load, he has about 2 hours of homework every night, seems like a lot to me but it has been years since I was in school (smiles). Dave worked 82 hours the week before last (that's more than I work in 2 weeks) but says they should be slowing way down and soon. The housing decline has taken it's toll on a lot of builders this year. Dave says they may even close down early this fall instead of waiting until Novemeber. He has been working on seeding and spraying all of the fields so his work load was huge and he had some deadlines to meet. We did decide to take a long weekend over Labor day and go fishing. He needed the rest! Weather was beautiful and fishing was good.

HEY HEATHER AND SHAWN....CONGRATS!!!!! We are so very happy for you! We need a baby shower......gee, who is a good planner???? Heather but she can't plan her own shower. We will have to work on this over the winter and plan for a spring shower. Elizabeth, Lauire, Jen... I will help!!! (smiles) I know there is a lot of time to prepare but I am so darn excited!!!!

Nothing as exciting at this end, work stays steady for me, looks like I will stay busy over the winter at least. We have picked up a few projects here and there and my boss is going to open up another business so that will add to my work load which is a GOOD thing.

Dave, my sister Robin and my neighbor planned a 50th birthday party for me, there was around 90 people here throughout the day. It was quite exciting! I think every neighbor in a two block radius was here plus I saw some old friends that I had not seen in years. Tanner made me a video that made me cry and my sister had poster boards full of pictures from a fifty year span from when I was a baby up to now....very special day! Of course they had to play the "over the hill" stuff on me all day long but I loved every minute!
Have a good week everyone!

P.S. Hey Anita and Jari what do you think of Palin????

Hi Jody!! Happy Belated Birthday!! would have been fun to be part of your birthday party! I am so bad about knowing/acknowledging when others birthdays are! so I'm glad to hear that you had a great time!
I can't believe Mitchell is in 4th grade! We started school on the 11th, so we have been going for a few weeks now too, and are getting into a routine.. Although now I am going to have to change my daily routine a little, because Toni started preschool today. And she loves it! She goes from noon-2:30 Mon-Thurs.
I watched Sarah Palin's speech last night, and I loved it! She gave a great speech I thought, she seemed very comfortable, and she is tough. Everywhere I went today people were talking about her...at the gas station, the grocery store, the school, etc...sounds like she has a lot of fans! I think John McCain did good choosing her as his VP. This is going to be an exciting race! I don't know how many of you watched her speech, but I especially liked how when the little girl was holding the baby, she licked her fingers and smoothed down the babies hair...cute!

I agree on the Palin issue. Heard a lot of great things about her today as well. The next few months will be interesting as "others" try and tear her apart but that is all part of the game I guess. Watched McCain tonight and he really gives me goose bumps with his American pride, have not really believed all the jumble mumble from others and the talk of being an American but I really do feel it with him. I am not a Republican or a Democrat, I listen to the platform and try and make a decision based on what I hear and what I believe not always an easy decision.
Can not believe that Toni is going to pre school already. The years just seem to fly by. How are the rest of the girls doing?
Don't feel bad about the birthday thing, I sure am not winning any trophies for remembering either. I forgot my own anniversary, now that is getting pretty bad!!!
Hope you have a good week!
Talk to you soon!

jody,
Last Tuesday Tia Marjanen called me at around 6p.m. or so and says "my mom told me to call you and wish you a happy anniversary!" I'm like..what?! I had to think about it for a second, before I realized that 'oh yeah, today is our anniversary!' Frans claimed that he knew, but the day was already almost done and he still hadn't acknowledged it! So I'm having my doubts about wether he really knew or not! anyways...we'll have to celebrate one of these days!

Great picture, Jody! Happy Birthday.

to both jody & jenny, it'll come as no surprise to you, but i'll say it anyway for some blog balance, that i believe this country and the world will be much better off with an obama-biden administration than mccain-palen.

Happy Birthday Jody! Great picture!! Sure would have been fun to be part of the action.

As for the election (here goes the blog balance) .. no candidate in this race is perfect. I have complained for years about McCain's stance on ILLEGAL immigration. Didn't like it when I lived in his state and don't like it now. I also enjoyed Palin's speech. To think that someone who didn't grow up with a second home on the Cape or with a silver spoon in their mouth can make it to this stage of the "game" is quite exciting. And ... there are things I don't like about her either. I am incredibly pleased tho' that someone can stand up for what they believe in and live it ... pro life, pro gun rights, etc. and motivate a population. It is about time. That fact that she is not about raising capital gains tax isn't bad either. :) If she inspires folks with her patriotism and her morals ... go Palin! I can't wait to see a debate between the VP candidates. Promises to be a good one.

We got a sneak preview of the video
that Tanner made. We thought he did
an awesome job; made me teary eyed
also. Nice to hear he is going to
Vo-Tech part of the day. Get a
jump start on his further
education. We happened to stop
at David and Jody's the day before
her birthday without realizing it
was her birthday as hadn't looked at the calendar!!

Seems I miss anniversaries and
birthdays just because I don't look
at the calendar I made. Getting
old!

Nice to see you on the Blog, Jody.

When it comes to politics (as always) you need to determine how much truth is actually being spoken. If you would have asked me a month ago I would not vote for either canidate but think I would write in my neighbor instead (haha). So much of the politics today is based on finding and publicizing every character flaw there is. So much time and money is spent on the negative campain which I hate. The jury is still out for me, still undecided but I got pumped up with McCains and Palin's speeches. Can't remember the last president that actually DID what he promised while he was trying to get elected. Mumble jumble
Hey how did this blog posting get turned in to politics??? haha
Enough on the subject....I have learned it can create huge debates that I am not up for (haha)
So glad it is Friday, looking forward to a nice relaxing weekend. Dave has to work again so I am taking down the pool, doesn't sound relaxing does it?(smiles)
On a whole different note, are we doing the girls Christmas drawing this year??? I used mine from Becky over the weekend, made hotdogs over the fire and then smores....we only had the one "stick" that Becky gave me and it came in handy. Mitchell has now claimed it to be his-go figure....!
You all have a great weekend!
PS: Heather, how have you been feeling? Any morning sickness???

Hi DK
Yes didn't Tanner do a great job on the video? For those of you that have not seen it he played the song "Your gonna miss this"....then had shots of him and Mitchell. He ended the video with pictures of my dad (who died when I was 16) with the words "Your dad would be so proud of who you have become". I cried my eyes out. I was so amazed at how Tanner did his cut ins and fades with the video. He added some video coverage as well. It is right up there with my bride doll as my most valuable possessions! I will cherish it forever!

Call me a wimp, but not interested in joining the political discussion. I will leave it up to your imagination and this little thought: I work in the social services field, believe my work is important and want to keep doing it not only for my paycheck but mostly to benefit my clients. Bet you can't guess who I would vote for :)

Jody, Happy Belated birthday. I too am horrible at remembering birthdays. I should put it on my computer at work as most of my time is spent here, rather than hanging a calendar on the wall at home! Would be fun to see more pictures posted of your birthday!

I don't really have any morning sickness. Did for a while, but it appears to have passed. Have some issues with different smells which leads to some issues. I do the chores for our animals and the smell of the chicken coop makes me want to vomit, so it's making for interesting mornings and evenings.

Heather-put a tiny dab of vicks under your nose when you do the chickens....that's what my doctor told me when it came to smells that I could not stand.....but then I don't know if that would make it worse....combination of chickens and vicks (haha)
Glad to hear you are doing good! Now the newsletter said you are about 10 weeks so I would guess that if you were going to have morning sickness you would have it by now. I will be excited to hear about the names you have picked out. Enjoy the next several months of pregnancy...it is truly a remarkable expierence! Don't be a super woman either-take it easy!
Have a great weekend!

I am 12 and a half weeks. I haven't been doing anything. Just getting fat and lazy! I forget sometimes and pick up things that I probably shouldn't, but really don't remember not to. I have to feed the chickens and move the bag, right?

For the most part though, I'm not doing anything. My doctor told me I'm healthy and continue with normal activity. Knowing Merry's story of her doctor's telling her that, her following their recommendation and her having miscarriages (it was normal for her to do concrete, lay block,....)so, I'm just taking it easy. Getting kind of bored, but my house has never been so clean for so many days in a row :) I hate house work and would find a million things to do outside instead. However, now I'm not supposed to take the big weed whacker and do that kind of thing, so I clean the toilet bowl instead!

Here's the names Shawn came up with:

for a boy:
First name: Who's
Middle: BoyYou

For a girl:
First name: Who's
Middle: GirlYou

He said that's all he ever heard from his aunts and many others is: Who's boy you? He figured may as well just name the baby that! I'm going for the more creative way of spelling "Who's" but he figures why skirt around the issue :)

Kuoppala and Inlaws said...

Who's boy you... Who's girl you... heh I like that! I think I've already said it, but... congrats if I havn't ;-)

Wow, politics on the blog! I'm saving my vote for the candidate/party, that says that they have no business talking about their personal morals/ethics/beliefs, because if the are to be elected, they will poll their consituents before casting any vote. They arn't their to help their own cause, they are their to act on the behalf of the people, and that in no way shape or form, has a blasted thing to do with their personal votes/thoughts/feelings.

I have a feeling I may be taking my vote to the grave with me :-)

Ooops that was Charlie

I have been quietly enjoying this action on the blog!

We managed to get a bunch of McCain/Palin propaganda as Eric was up front, close and personal, during the convention. Well, the four little girls sleep two to a bunk, and often wear their "Liz for Eveleth City Council" shirts to bed... I told Eric to just make sure that the two who are wearing the red Liz shirts sleep on the left side of the bunks and those who are wearing the McCain/Palin shirts sleep on the right side of the bunk.

So far so good. They are still getting along well :)

Enjoy learning more about all the candidates as the election gets closer. It is healthy to be interested and involved!
