Missing Anita

Sorry that we could not make it up north to see Anita before she left, hazards of being a sod farmer I guess. We just can't seem to beat the heat and with no rain it is impossible to keep grass green! You will all have to let me know how the Mines and Pines event went. There may still be a slim (very slim) chance that we drive up north on Saturday morning for the day but it's not looking good. The plan was that the guys were going to go fishing so if we do get to sneak away it will be without the boat as there would not be enough time to fit fishing in to the day. Hopefully we can surprise everyone but it is highly doubtful. Beginning to know what it is like living in Phoenix but with a ton of humidity on top of the heat. So uncomfortable, you just don't seem to dry off after a shower.
Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Jody...I thought I just heard this week that MN is having beautiful weather. Obviously not! I think yesterday....or was it Friday....was 114!! Now, THAT is hot! It must have been Friday, because it was dry, and yesterday was kinda muggy and it sprinkled a little in the afternoon. Either way, it's disgusting. Ben Wuollet's funeral was on Friday, and I couldn't help thinking that good thing there was not a burial at the gravesite, because it was so blasted hot!! (He is being buried in MN tomorrow)
Did you make it up North? Who all went to mines and pines? How was it? Did you all make any money? Did Paul and Kendra show up to check it out?
Frans is on the airplane on his way up there right now...I think he gets there around 2:00. (He is videoing the funeral tomorrow) too bad he is only there for not even 30 hours! Most of you will probably not even see him!
Well, I better get off this computer, and see what my kiddos are up too!

No, did not make it up north. Dave worked Saturday and Sunday and we had another emergency come up that changed our plans for the entire weekend and a family emergency that changes our plans for the weekend of the 29th and 30th as well. Things happen that are out of our control but we do what we can to help others when they need the help.
My sister just found out that she has to move July 29th and 30th, they are selling her townhome and she needs to be out by the end of July plus she has to move her daughter to Eau Claire the end of August for college. Lots to get done in a very short amount of time.
The heat this weekend was unbearable and the humidity was horrible for outside activites. Dave had an irrigation system go down Saturday afternoon and again Sunday morning. The well on one of the fields he is irrigating is caving in and it is spitting out more sand than water and clogging up the pipes...not good. Feel sorry for him working out in this weather. I drank 10 bottles of water on Saturday and probably an equal amount on Sunday. If you can stay inside in the AC than it is not so bad.
Have not heard how the Mines and Pines event went, I know it was just as hot for them sitting outside all day and thought about them and how they were doing. Hope it all went well and we were bummed that we could not make it.
Life of a sod farmer I guess.

Here's a report on the Mines and Pines. The weather was wonderful. Not really, it was 101 or 102 so not many people came. Everyone was saying it was a bad year this year. Those at the Mines and Pines: Reino, Diane, Anita, Alyx, Brock, Anna, Tia, Blayde, Michelle, Debbie, Liz, Kate, Laurie, Tristan, Heather, and Jen. Different people came at different times. The sale wasn't real good, but we did make $400 some dollars total. Some made more than others. Paul and Kendra did come to the Mines and Pines as did a bunch of other people. Overall, the summary of the weekend was, hot, hot, hot. However, other than a few people getting sick from the heat, it went good. Now the decision of do we ever do this again? I knew one of the vendors and she said that we should try it again rather than saying "never again" based on this year as it was really slow. Heather

Yes, Mines and Pines was hot. Anita said in AZ they have the brains to stay inside in heat like this, not sit outside all day.

If Dave, Jody and all would have come up and gone fishing, I'm sure
the fish would have been at the bottom of the lake, trying to find cool water.

Went to Ben Wuollet's funeral. Don Lahti had cataract surgery this morning at 7:00. Can't drive for 2 days; was back before 8:00.
They rode with us. They have a son married to Ben & Jeanette's
daughter. We saw Becky and family,
(Ben was Wayne's uncle), Anita and family (Jari had flown from Alaska so now can help Anita drive back to AZ. Saw Frans, he was taking pictures of the funeral and burial as requested by the family.

Hope Tanner can still go to Hasscib and then ride back with
Randalls as first planned a long
time ago. I thought perhaps he
is nervous about the idea but I heard today that lots of the kids are a bit nervous right now. I'll
say what Anita and Elizabeth both said about going to the Opisto in
Finland. If they had listened to
the part of them saying no to going they would have missed a lot.
Same thing for Tanner. dk

To those of you who say "but you live in Arizona". I was in & out, cleaning the carport, in the sweaty laundry room, etc most of the morning and must say I can stand the laundry room about as long as I could stand being in the "tent" at mines and pines. The wonderful thing about MN is that it could have just as well been 60 degrees and raining. Always a surprise! To those of you who had to listen to me whine ... sorry I was so cranky about the heat. And to Liz & Kate who took my kiddos swimming Saturday after the event ... sorry I wasn't up to enjoy the pizza or the evening company. I was just so nauseated and feeling ready to arf. Must be the first time ever that I have been to the Range and not eaten one piece of Poor Gary's Pizza! Thank you both for everything! Mom - does blogging thank you's count?? hehe If the show had half of the vendors this year that it did last year because of poor attendance/sales ... what do you think next year will be like? 50% craft/50% food? I would be willing to work on a few projects through the year and send them up, just probably not oodles of things. I'm afraid I wouldn't be there to help man a booth tho'. Was it worth it to anyone else? Make enough money to do it again? Jody ... sorry I missed you. Was looking forward to having a nice visit with you. Life happens ... we all know how that works. Have a great day all!
