Trapping Season

A few weeks ago our neighbor came over and told Jenny that we have roof rats. She told me when I got home and I figured no big deal. Then last saturday we were out on the patio and Jenny spotted a rat ran along the back fence. The next day I was cleaning the pool pump and the darn rat just walked right by me. I thought they are getting to brave so I better do some thing. Home depot rat trps are $1.50 but they only had one left. Ace Hardware they were $4.00 but had a lot of them. I went home with a total of four traps. last night I set them up this morning I had one and today when I got home from work I had another. Two down and hate to know how many more to go.

Hmmm ... do you think that a rat coat might be a bit too much for PETA? How many rats do you think it would take?

I didn't even know what a roof rat was! Good luck getting rid of them... Sounds like they are getting more and more common down there. Your slowly being over-run!

I did some reading before I started trapping and every where I read they said these things are smart. I got up to seven rats before they figured out how to get the peanut butter with out setting off the trap. Not sure how they are doing it but as long as they still try for the peanut butter I can get them by trickery. The question is, am I as dumb as a rat?
They have made it a challenge.

Interasting story. Rats have been observed to sit on a fence and watch a dog in the back yard. They wait for the dog to fall asleep (not only sleep but wait until the get to a deep sleep, very relaxed breathing. could take hours.) then they climb down the fence and go right infront of the dog like he is not there and eat the dog food, drink his water and take off.

PS. my seven year is sleeping so I can not use her as my spell check.

Well we are up to nine rats now. Had to switch from peanut butter to fruit snacks coated in peanut butter. They figured out how to lick off the peanut butter with out setting off the trap. With the fruit snack you can stick it on so it does not come off.

PS. my seven year old is up and told me I have a bunch of words spelt wrong and I did not use capital letters so we went back and fixed it.

Just outta curiousity... what are the rat traps your using? Can you coax them through 'tunnels' to get to the peanut butter fruit? and use conibears in the tunnels? or are the traps your using like conibears?

So what is the rat count at? Any idea how many usually like together? How quickly does the population grow?

(The 7 year old spell checker comments made me smile!)
