Gardening at Marjanens

Just a few pictures of my "gardening" in March! Must take more pictures this week, but they seem to be growing nicely. Must have given one bean plant too much water as it sort of wilted on me! Had some plants down in basement windows and they start wilting. Moved them up to living room windows and they perked right up. Maybe they need to hear human conversation or something. Will be challenging finding large containers for transplanting when they are ready ... but I'm up for the challenge! Looking forward to cucumbers, zucchini, onions, tomatoes, peas, beans, corn and more! Should I manage to harvest one vegetable ... you are all welcome for lunch! My gardening abilities have never been of the harvest variety.

I would like to wait to find out which vegetable we will all be sharing :)

I'm getting gardening envy!

Missi and I are starting plants inside also, but not any veggies, so you probably won't want to eat our crop unless you're into impatiens, roses, tulips, allyssum, or marigolds. Your problem with the basement window is probably temperature related-it's a little warmer upstairs likely. We have the same problem. Also we have a vine that I like but the windows in the basement are so small that only part of it gets enough sun- I hang it up from the ceiling and the bottom flourishes but top dies off, I set it on something in front of the window and the top blooms but the bottom of the vines die off. I'll probably have to switch off every week or so-hopefully the whole thing won't die off on me then. Check you all later. I

We'll let you know how the seeds
planted in Brainerd do. Two have
sprouted so far. Seed packet said
the east window is best! That's
the only place Pa had to put them.

Okay, I really need to get some seeds going. Should have room in the house now, so that's the next project :)

When there is no more Katie (shhhh, she is lying right next to me), I am going to take up gardening again. Right now that dog seems to dig up everything under the sun. I don't even know if I have a green thumb or not so would like to give it a shot. I know where I can go to get some great tips cause you all seem to be able to grow almost anything. I was able to get Mitchell's Chia Pet to grow fairly well though...haha
Anita when I spoke to you on the phone you said you had started some plants inside but you have a regular green house going. Will be anxious to hear your results of what and how well things grow in Alaska. I am still learning what can be grown in Minnesota, weeds and dandelions seem to do very well for me.

Harry Samuelson was here after the
Srs. Meeting. He suggested Pa get
a gro light and put directly over
the plants. The one he has now is
to one side and Harry said the
plants would grow toward that light. Went to Menards after they
left and got the light fixture.
Tomorrow morning he will make a stand for it. 1 sprouted thing is
growing, 1 died, others not up. dk

Amber has grow lights and her garden is growing out in the garage ... doing very well. Vines around the basement windows should work here at some later point. They are quite sunny.
Fun, Fun!!
