oops! I did get a call from Diane, and I didn't call Frans!! She tried calling him, but no answer, (I think she has the wrong # for him). Don't know what I was thinking....

Okay, so this is much after all of the previous posts. When I talked to/texted Mom earlier today, he was in recovery, things had gone pretty smooth.

As far as the "moving around without pain" comment... A couple of days ago I was talking to a friend who had a hip replacement. As a matter of fact, he has had it re-done several times. "Tune-ups" he calls them.

Just like a car coming from the factory, every part has a part number on it... Just like the parts in his hip (he got to bring home the 'broken parts', and he and his son googled the part number stamped into his worn out parts, and found out the make and model.)

This gent says that, just like cars, parts coming as standard equipment usually last the longest, with the most resistance to wear and malfunction. But, if you upgrade, to high performance parts, they don't last as long, even though the new parts perform better.

This gent also unsuccessfully asked for a zipper installation to speed up the process of the next maintenance session, as he is quite confident that he will continue to push his high performance equipment beyond their limits.

I thought that was an interesting way to look at things :-)

Bill Alanen had both hips replaced, and he says he is able to move around pain free.
