Merry Christmas To All!

Hello all! It has been a long time since I posted, but I have been very busy at work. The week after Thanksgiving I got a new baby to take care of along with the two that I already have. A friend of my bosses had a baby girl and wanted to bring her to me if it would work. After a lot of discussion and planning, we descided it would be great. And it is, she is now four months old, her name is Paisley Pratt Andrews, and she is the cutest little thing. But I hardley have any time to check my email anymore, let along read the blog. Though today I have plenty of time. The two older girls and their parents are in Michigan now, so I only have baby Paisley, and she is sleeping right now!

Ivan went back to work today after two months of being laid-off. What timing! I have all next week off and was hoping to spend some time with him, but now he has to go back to work. Oh well, I think he was getting too used to sitting around the house all day, he needs to get out. We don't know how long he will be working, it may be just this house, or it may be more. We just have to wait and see. He finally did his christmas shopping yesterday!

Some more good news! Some of you might have heard that my parents moved out of their house in July and moved into the basement of my grandma while they found a new house. After many (too many) months of ups and downs, almost buys and losses, they have finally found a town house to rent for the next year and a half, then they will buy. We are all so happy that they will be in their new house for christmas. My mom was so upset that she would not be able to decorate for christmas. Now she is trying to decorate while unpacking!

I need your help with something for the wedding. I would like to make Trivial Persute card on the tables, for some fun entertainment, with questions about Ivan and myself. I would like to get some trivial facts about Ivan that he may not tell me. So, if you know of any fun facts about Ivan, and I know you do, could you please email them to me? Thanks for your help. If you know anything about me or our relationship these past five years, feel free to add those. I need all the help I can get.

Have a great holiday season!
~MISSI~

Mother

The young mother set her foot on the path of life. “Is this the long way?” she asked. And the guide said, “Yes, and the way is hard. And you will be old before you reach the end of it. But the end will be better than the beginning.”

But the young mother was happy and she would not believe that anything could be better than these years. So she played with her children, she fed them, and bathed them, and taught them how to tie their shoes and ride a bike and reminded them to feed the dog and do their homework and brush their teeth. The sun shone on them and the young Mother cried, “Nothing will ever be lovelier than this”.

Then the nights came, and the storms, and the path was sometimes dark, and the children shook with fear and cold, and the mother drew them close and covered them with her arms, and the children said, “Mother we are not afraid, for you are near, and no harm can come”.

And the morning came, and there was a hill ahead, and the children climbed and grew weary, and the mother was weary. But at all times she said to the children, “A little patience and we are there.”

So the children climbed, and as they climbed, they learned to weather the storms. And with this, she gave them strength to face the world. Year after year, she showed them compassion, understanding, hope, but most of all, unconditional love. And when they reached the top they said,
“Mother, we would not have done it without you.”

The days went on, and the weeks and the months and the years, and then the mother grew old, and she became little and bent. But her children were tall and strong, and walked with courage. And the mother, when she lay down at night, looked up at the stars and said, “This is a better day then the last, for my children have learned so much and are now passing these traits on to their children.”

And when the way became rough for her, they lifted her, and gave her their strength, just as she had given them hers. One day they came to a hill, and beyond the hill they could see a shining road and golden gates flung wide. And the mother said, “I have reached the end of my journey. And now I know the end is better then the beginning, for my children can walk with dignity and pride, with their heads held high, and so can their children after them.”

And the children said, “You will always walk with us, Mother, even when you have gone through the gates.” And they stood and watched her as she went on alone, and the gates closed after her. And they said, “We cannot see her, but she is with us still. A mother like ours is more then a memory. She is a living presence.”

Your mother is always with you. She’s the whisper of the leaves as you walk down the street. She’s the smell of certain foods you remember…flowers you pick and perfume that she wore. She’s the cool hand on your brow when you’re not feeling well…she’s your breath in the air on a cold winter’s day. She is the sound of the rain that lulls you to sleep…the colors of a rainbow. She is Christmas morning.

Your mother lives inside your laughter. And she is crystallized in every tear drop. A mother shows every emotion…happiness, sadness, fear, jealousy, love, hate, anger, helplessness, excitement, joy, sorrow…and all the while hoping and praying you will only know the good feelings in life. She’s the place you came from, your first home, and she’s the map you follow with every step you take. She’s your first love, your first friend, even your first enemy…but nothing on earth can separate you. Not time, not space, not even death.

Santa's Sleigh Status

Well ... I am totally behind in the shipping department. My intentions were quite noble, the job list too long, worked these past 2 days, and patience was a bit short the day I tried the mailing place. Even sent Blayde to do the mailing one day. It was a bit confusing ... so told him to come back with the pile.

So.
Gifts will go out in the mail tomorrow for name exchanges.
They will most probably not be there in time for Christmas.
My thoughts and good wishes will be with you instead on Christmas Eve/Day.
And ...
I won't tell you who you are!

Surprise coming next week sometime!

Anita

Happy Holidays!

I havn't posted anything here for a while, so I just thought I'd drop a line to say howdy! Even though I havn't been posting, I still check it out to read, and look at pictures. With as often as I get out to see everyone, its awfully nice to see the pictures. If it wasn't for some of these pictures, with as much as some of these kids have grown up, I never would have even recognized many on the street. Kinda sad eh?

Keep on posting... Keep on posting pictures! I promise to get some taken over the holidays :-)

Anita and all

Life is just a tad bit too busy. Any ideas on how to slow it down? I haven't posted for quite a while ... told Debbie today that I would. So, here I am.

Christmas shopping is DONE! (except for a few little things) I manged to hit the post office today with things that were wrapped. Went to the UPS Store with the ones I want them to wrap and the line was out to the parking lot. Decided that it could wait. The end of November I was so pumped. Things were moving right along and I felt I was on top of things. All of a sudden it was December 2nd ... then December 12th ... and I started getting that stress thing going on. Jari & I were making up a song about the stress of the season as we were driving around earlier ... now I can't remember any of that either.

The bright part of today is that our youngest turned what she calls "double digits". Tia celebrated ten years old with family at home. She has been wanting a skateboard for several years now ... and finally got one! (I'm going for frequent visitor miles at the emergency room.)

Alyx started working somewhere in the last 4 weeks. She found a job at Fiddlesticks Family Fun Park. She works hard, enjoys it most of the time ... and has shoe shopping money. One day she and Brock were having some good laughs out in the backyard. The wheelchair is somthing we bought at Savers a while ago. Great entertainment. There wasn't enough challenge with the front wheels on the chair, so they had to come off. Now it appears that it is double decker kids on a wheelchair with only two wheels. They've gotten more entertainment out of this goofy chair ... you wouldn't believe it.

The weekend before this past one I went to California to complete my allergy elimination treatment training. Now I have a problem. Y'all know that "shoe makers kids never have shoes, roofers house always needs a roof ...." well, now it is the allergy thing here. I imagine that after this week is over and done I'll have a few more available moments in a day. We can always hope.
While I was at the seminar I got a call from Jari that started something like this, "where are the insurance cards?" That never means anything good. Brock was at a friend's house, wiped out on a bicycle and landed on his noggin. Poor guy couldn't stand without vomiting ... off to the CT scan ... couldn't make it thru there either without the same result. Ended up being a concussion, all is well. He was tired for a few days ... recovered well. I came home to another surprise. He looked at me and said "mom ....." I KNOW THAT LOOK! I got the flashlight out ... went out to the shed ... and brought in the level. You see, I refuse to believe that a child of mine is actually taller than I am unless a level is used in the judging. Am afraid I was the one to lose in the "1/2 a bubble off" department. Child #3 has passed me up. He's quite proud of the fact. (so am i)

Tuesday of last week our roof was finished. BIG Project #___ is done. One more to go ... and my hubby does not want to tackle that one. The roof looks so neat! Things that make a person nearly jump for joy.

This past weekend was another fun one. I worked Friday & Saturday, and had the foolish notion that I hadn't passed that "getting older" mark yet. Jari & I went to a wonderful Christmas party on Friday night and stayed out much too late. Saturday it was quite a challenge to keep the lids open and focused. Was worth it tho'. Saturday nite I was rather exhausted. Sunday was the Sunday School program in the evening. Jari & a few other guys took boys & toys out to the desert bright and early in the morning. I puttered around home ... 'til that blasted phone rang at about 9:30. Brock was hurt, broken arm this time by nose diving into a wash. They were about 4-5 miles back out in the desert and had to get out by quad/bike. We have such incredibly wonderful friends. An ambulance was waiting for him when they got out where vehicles could make it. Nate & Vanessa Skoog had gone out to try & find them after being called. Don't know how far away from their house the guys were, but I would have never found them. Vanessa is a pediatric emergency room nurse and she rode into the hospital with Brock. There were some issues with the setting of 2 broken bones just above his left wrist. Shucks! He is right handed. He got out of the Sunday School program and going up on stage, but doesn't get out of school work. He won't let me post a picture here of him, perhaps he'll let me get away with this one. I'll know tomorrow. So, keep the fingers crossed that the bones stay where they are supposed to be and it doesn't require surgery. He is already complaining of itching beneath the cast ... but has been a wonderful trooper!

More sometime soon!

funeral pictures (debbie)

here are a few pictures from the funeral, there are some more but my mom said it wouldn't be to good to post them on here. the picture of the flowers is taken on the right side of the funeral home, so that is the side that the kuoppala and forstie flowers are on. the kuoppala flowers arejust above the flowers lying on her casket i believe. also the family

Jenny

Okay, Debbie says she isn't going to post any pictures until we do....here are some pictures. The ones of Kierstyn in the lights and of Alanys singing was the weekend after thanksgiving, Anna and Tia were here, and we set up our christmas stuff. We are still waiting to see the funeral pictures though. Becky, did you happen to take a picture of the flower arrangement from the forstie's? If you did, could you please post it or email it to me?Thanx. Am starting to stress about all that I have left to do and buy before Christmas! I bought a lot of things in August/sept/october, but was probably TOO on the ball, and figured I had plentyof time to finish! Oh well. The sunday school program is on Sunday, and the kids are soooo excited for it! Going by the last two practices, Kierstyn and one other girl in her class will be singing a solo! They are nice and loud, and know all their words! I can't wait, and will post some pics maybe on Monday. Frans is videoing it again this year.
Well, I have about a thousand wedding pictures I need to have edited in a week, so I better get crackin on them!
Now let's see some more pics Debbie!:)
Have a great weekend everyone!

Hello everyone

I am now back to work, haven't been to work since Friday 12/1. I've been trying to catch up on things like e-mail, blogs, etc. Oh yeah, work stuff too.

First, I'd like to thank everyone for their thoughts/prayers/visits during Julia's illness. I know she enjoyed when Mom and Isa came to visit. Becky, I'm glad you and your family could also get here to see her in November. She wanted me to help her send Christmas cards and some of the first on the list were Reino/Diane, Anita, Becky, etc.

Thanks to Mom/Isa who drove to Hibbing that first Monday night when we weren't sure if she would make it through the night. The family was grateful that you were able to get there to be with her. Thanks also to Isa for doing the funeral service. There was discussion on hard it must be to do the funeral. Some people now have questions that they are thinking about.

Thanks to Liz for bringing the fruit and veggie trays and the chips of course to Julia's. Pam wanted to send you a great big thanks. She doesn't remember there ever being vegetables in the fridge there to snack on. She and Mauri were grateful. I loved the fruit, chips, and CHOCOLATE. Thanks also for reading the memories and for all the other help.

Thanks to Jen for coming to the hospital and being with everyone. It was so nice that you could come to be with us. Thanks for all the help with the details after she died also. Thanks for the bars, cake, and cookies. It was nice to have the food there when it got to the point that no one wanted to leave the room. Though Julia may not have been completely aware of what was going on, her wish from the day before was met, "let's have a party, we can have kool-aid, pop, and baked goods, and sing some Christmas songs". Thanks for helping us to make her wish come true.

Thanks to all who called and lent us their ear during the past week.

Thanks to Becky for playing at the visitation. Some of the family really wanted to sing and you made it possible for us to be in tune (or at least closer to being in tune).

Thanks to those who attended the funeral, the visitation, or came to our house or over to Julia's. I won't be listing names, but you know who you are and be sure that we all know who you are. Thanks so much.

Thanks to everyone for the plant. There basket consisted of 8 plants: 1 spider plant, 1 pointsettia, 1 peace lilly, 2 ivy, 1 plant that has long green leaves with red border, a tree, and another green plant. There was also filler in the basket of red carnations, white lilies, branches, etc. It was really pretty.

I'd better get to work. But thanks to everyone for everything.

Julia, Julia ...

There aren't too many of those feisty Finn ladies anymore are there?
I feel bad for the generations to come who will never know some of these women. They survived life's hardships and grew to be very tough indeed ... with marshmallow insides.

I remember eating the most wonderful stew piled on top of my piece of flatbread! It was, oh, so yummy.

A visit with Elvin to our house during winter services. They came to coffee along with Harry & Audrey. The discussion turned to empty houses and no children around. Julia said she was so happy when the kids & grandkids were there. The more people around, the better it was. She didn't like an empty house. Audrey couldn't quite understand how one could feel that way!

Yes, the voice was certainly unmistakable.

The laugh and the hug every time I saw her.

Butterfly gardens.

There were certainly other pieces of this dear woman. Like the tree switch in the Virginia church. It came all the way into the church bench to shapen up wayward children. She is the only woman who could have every gotten away with that one.

She had many trials in this life, but was so richly blessed and rewarded in the end.

What a victory she has gained.

In Memory of Julia

i don't even know where to start - but i'd love to see what others write. so i'll start and hope you'll add to the list of ways julia was unforgettable:

her voice - just a notch louder than most with that finnish accent;
sauna - nightgown and curlers;
stew with stewed tomatoes;
peanut butter sandwiches with regular butter;
sunday school kindergarten class coloring;
cool-aid;
hay making;
dolls;
wanting granddaughters so badly - and then cherishing them so much;
always making sure everybody got enough to eat;
summer picnics;
flowers, flowers, flowers;
her determination to carry on after each of her devastating losses;
she wanted me to write elvin a poem for his b-day once and then decided to write it herself and was so proud and so was i;
high school graduations;
afghans;
singing in church;
always asking after everybody to see how they were doing;
and her laugh.
i loved her laugh.
and her stubbornness.

and so much more.
-e.
Where is everyone besides the az folks, randall's and auntie wiz??!?!?!?!?!?! Do you all never check the blog, or are you checking but just not saying anything??!!

B is laughing instead of working

I think I am going to get kicked out of the library! I am at work - taking a supper break in the medical library - so I can catch up on the blog. Oh my goodness! I can't stop laughing. The narrow surgery posts just put me over the edge! Thank you for the great stress release!

Just a quick update on life at our house...
Wayne was in Canada all of last week. He was scheduled to come home Friday evening, but because of weather, his flight was cancelled. He made it back Saturday afternoon. He told the folks he was working with that they must not know about global warming. It was -30C with wind blowing around the 15 inches of snow they received the first day he was there.

We finally got a Christmas picture taken this morning. I came close to giving up on the idea as coordinating schedules with people in Alex, Canada, school, and work just wasn't happening. One last ditch effort worked. I asked everyone - even the big kids - if they would rise and shine and put smiles on at 8am this morning. They did it!!! Made my day. We were a bit late for Sunday School program practice, but were out of the house about 9am and the girls made it to work on time. Now if I can find a little time, I would like to get the house to look a bit like Christmas...

I do love this time of year, despite the tight schedules. Next year I will make another promise to have shopping done before Thanksgiving. If I make the promise often enough, maybe I will get it to happen once. I want to spend moments taking deep breaths while listening to Christmas music in a home filled with the smells of Christmas baking. Maybe I will take the month of December off next year so I can hit every program and party... It is ok to dream, right? Acutally, even with craziness of activities, the true meaning of Christmas shines as it immersed throughout the activities of December. For that I am thankful.

Time to get back to work. Thanks again for the delightful entries!
